By some miracle this match was on. After the snow and rain that Haslingden got last week I was surprised this was playable. We were supposed to be down at Pennington but decided earlier in the week to try and reverse the fixture as their pitch was waterlogged.
After checking the pitch on Friday night it was perfect in the majority of areas. After seeing the frost yesterday morning I thought it could be a bit risky but having turned up to see another match on there they had softened it up very nicely! And to be honest the pitch held up very well.
We ran out 1-0 winners but if we had a bit more cutting edge and composure to our finishing it could have been more but a solid performance and pleased with the start we have made after 6 games.
The goal came from a long throw, goal mouth scramble and Nick Power managing to get a foot on it.
Pennington just didn't seem to have a goal in them yesterday and on another day it could have been different. I am sure if Pennington have the same desire and spirit they will get out of trouble at the bottom.
Good conduct and spirit from both sets of players. Thanks to Peter and his lads.
