Fully deserved win by WAFC A, who after the first 20-25 mins of the match were on top. This is the first time we have played WAFC and I reckon they played very well and proved too good for us on the day. They have good players in all positions.
The match was evenly balanced for the first quarter and Hurdsfield went 1-0. But as the first half progressed WAFC posed more attacking threat, but only scored one before half time. Then in the second half they scored 5 - the goals came for them where they hadn't in the first half.
WAFC took full advantage of our absences and injuries. We went from having 14 players on Friday evening to just 11 at kick-off........most disappointing was one no show, still don't know why he didn't turn up (first time we've had that for many years). So, when two of those 11 got injuries during the match but had to continue it was tough. Especially our main man Jonny, who got a hamstring pull/strain early on but heroically played on and was still effective but was not his usual influence on the match. Maybe it was Jonny's injury that swung the match in the favour of WAFC after that first quarter.
The match was well reffed and played in good 'spirit' by both teams.
After a great start to the season, we haven't won since mid October. But that winless run has included Toft twice, Burnley Yellows and difficulties with player availability. So I don't think we've become a poor team, but we need to get a win soon or low confidence might become a problem.
BUT.......Wednesday winning at Hull this evening has made up for Hurdsfield losing this morning !!
