Hurdsfield home match switched to 3G in Burnley due to East Cheshire Council pitches closed for the 4th weekend in a row due to the wet weather.
This morning, the wind was not as bad as forecast and although it increased and rained persistently in the second half I reckon the weather did not spoil the match or the football.
Based on the evidence of this match, after a mixed start to the season, Burnley Yellows are back to their usual high standards - and Burger says they still have a couple of key players missing! I reckon their football benefits from playing on the 3G surface which they now use for their home matches. Yellows probably should have scored more than 5 and let us off the hook a bit with some wasteful finishing, but I think that if the winning margin had been greater than 5-1 it would have been harsh on Hurdsfield and not representative of the contest overall. When we pulled a goal back to make it 3-1 mid way through the second half we were having a good phase in the match, but Yellows scored 2 goals in the last quarter to seal the match as we tired playing into the wind.
For the return match in April, playing on grass and if we can have our key players available who could not play today, I reckon we could push Yellows much closer.
The match was played in good 'spirit' by both teams, no issues and with a good referee - a new ref to us from our many visits to Burnley to play the Blues and Yellows over the seasons. I think Yellows are playing NCC Round 2 next Saturday.......good luck !
