In football it is often said that things even out over the season. Well, after 2 defeats earlier in the season when we should have won, this was a victory where I don't know if we can say we were the better team. I reckon Ivy had the upper hand on attacking possession, but Hurdsfield defended resolutely and our keeper made some good saves, whilst we looked dangerous on the break and forced defensive and goalie errors from Ivy to score our three goals. Perhaps the only disappointment for us was that whilst we defended really well in open play, we conceded twice from corners. Especially pleasing was that we won with no sibs and 3 key attacking players missing.
With many SMCCFL matches postponed due to closed pitches it was good that we were able to play. The Wythenshawe Sports Ground pitches had held up remarkably well to the recent wet weather.
Ivy play good football, they have good players throughout the team and they play with a good attitude. I didn't hear a single word of bad language from either team all match and I reckon the match was a near perfect example of how we want football to be played in SMCCFL.
