I can't believe we lost this one, we somehow managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory !
It was a great match.......good football played by both teams with a great attitude from all players who just wanted to play football with a sporting, friendly and respectful attitude. And great weather, and the referee had a good match. Ramsbottom went 1-0 up early on, then Hurdsfield scored twice in the first half to make it 2-1 at half time. We had the majority of the attacking play and the majority of the clear-cut scoring opportunities in both halves.......I don't think it would have been unfair if we had been 4-1 or 5-1 ahead in the second half. But we couldn't score again, Ramsbottom never gave up and will have known that at 2-1 they still had a chance to get a result......and then they scored two goals in the last 15 minutes to snatch the victory. Ramsbottom took their chances and we didn't. That's football !
Of course, after the final whistle, the Hurdsfield players were very disappointed to lose and couldn't quite believe we had lost. But, we also discussed the positives that we had played some good football in a really good match (by both teams) and that if we keep playing with the same attacking threat in future matches we'll score more goals and win more football matches.
So, a win and a defeat from our first two matches after our unexpected return to division 1. From what I have seen so far I reckon we will be competitive in division 1 this season. It looks like the division will be finely balanced across all 8 teams and it should be an interesting season !
