Disappointing result for Hurdsfield, but deserved win for Firwood. Whilst it never feels good to loose a football match, I am pleased for Firwood as it is good for the confidence of their team having had a tough first half of the season with their new look squad.
It was 3-0 at half time, so the scoreline would suggest that Hurdsfield improved in the 2nd half. But throughout the 90 mins Firwood consistently created scoring opportunities and with more accurate shooting/finishing they probably should have scored more than 4 goals. Our zero is an accurate reflection of our attacking threat today !
The result was very much a reverse of Hurdsfield's 10-3 win back in September. But, even back then we could see their potential - a largely changed team from previous seasons, with some very good young footballers who in time would gel into a very good team......today we saw that they are making good progress. And when they are at home on their 3G pitch that is an advantage to them - great surface to play on but it is different to a muddy and bobbly council grass pitch !
We are not too disappointed with the result in the circumstances...........first match after the Christmas holiday period, we had a number of key players missing today, two players who were playing their first match of the season and only one sub who had to play most of the match when one of our centre midfielders had to come off feeling ill. But I still thought we put a decent team out. In our post-match chat we agreed that at the least it was a good post-Christmas fitness builder for those who did play!
The match was well refereed as usual by Walter, with good conduct and friendly attitude from both sets of players.
