So, the glimmer of hope we had a few weeks back that we could avoid relegation is now definitely gone. Our five match unbeaten run came to an end this morning on a small soggy pitch on a sunny and windy morning in Haslingden. I think Ramsbottom have made themselves all but safe from relegation with the win - well done to them after their promotion into div 1.
Ramsbottom scored a goal in each half, both very avoidable goals from our point of view. We created a few chances ourselves but never really looked like scoring. We didn't play as well as we have recently and I think we did miss Fran up front who was ill. At the end, a number of our players were saying they hadn't really enjoyed the match - I think it was a combination of the pitch conditions, the wind and the incessant tactic of the long throw into the box from Ramsbottom. I think two Saturdays in a row of that long throw has just bored us!........although we defended it well and didn't concede from it in either match......Ramsbottom are a good team who probably don't need to use/rely on it so much.
I've already started thinking about us playing in div 2 next season - looking forward to it. This season div 2 looks to have been a really good league with 8 good teams, I expect it to be same next season and it looks like Ditton and Ivy promoted from div 3 will help to maintain the high standards. It will be good to play teams we haven't played before and I know we will enjoy our football next season, especially if we can be challenging at the top rather than bottom of the table. So, not too disappointed to be relegated.
