A great cup tie that shows how brilliant football can be!
Coldhurst took the lead scoring twice within the first 15 minutes, with two fine finished into the top corner of the goal. The first, a header and the second a curling effort from outside the box. The went in via the keepers glove and the crossbar.
Ivy then got themselves back into it with a great strike that beat the keeper at the near post.
Second half ivy controlled and dominated from kick off, but it was Coldhurst who got there 2 goal lead back in tact, After a poor catch from the Ivy keeper from a routine shot squirmed over his gloves. The other touch of good fortune was the striker who received the ball before shooting was clearly in an offside position before receiving the ball.
Ivy continued to push and press, leaving Coldhurst to defend deep and try to break on the counter. Ivy then got there 2nd after a sweeping move down the left wing.
In the final 20 minutes Ivy continued to dominate possession, but couldn't break down a stubborn Coldhurst team, as well as being wasteful with the chances we had inside the box.
Ivy also had a very good penalty appeal turned down. That even several Coldhurst players were relieved at!
All in all it was a great cup tie, and it was a very different Coldhurst team that turned up today to the one we played in the league before Christmas, bringing back some pacy, skillful wide players.
Well done to Coldhurst and good luck in the next round.
