Switched to 3G due to the weather, the game was played at Salford Reds 3G pitch, just around the corner I think, from the Salford v Hurdsfield fixture.
A well contested game saw Smafc squander several clear chances to go ahead early on, doubled by Ramsbottoms keeper pulling off some great saves, as he did throughout. Ramsbottom were posing a threat on the break and from set plays too.
Smafc took the lead with a good finish from just inside the box on around the half hour mark. Ramsbottom had a shout for a penalty and then had a point blank shot well saved before they equalised soon after with a header from their centre back, from a corner.
Half time 1-1
Second half started the same with Smafc creating chances but struggling to find the finish and again some great goalkeeping leaving the scores level. Ramsbottom still threatened and went close with a shot on the angle as Smafc pushed for a second, again missing some good chances. With 15 minutes to go Smafc were awarded a debatable penalty and maybe justifiably it was saved after a dreadful spot kick. Despite the save the follow up resulted in another penalty being awarded for a push and this was put away emphatically for 2-1.
With 5 minutes to go Smafc added a third having missed several opportunities to add to their lead and Ramsbottom went close with a long range effort from the kick off, but the game finished 3-1.
Some hand bags were swung at the final whistle when a Ramsbottom player refused to shake hands and some tempers flared but it showed what a well contested game it was throughout.
Good luck to Ramsbottom for the remainder of the season.
