Happy New Year Everyone associated with the SMCCFL
Well where do I start, firstly it was good to finally get a game after such a lengthy lay off.
Hurdsfield took an early lead in the first half through our own mistake, we were all guilty of switching off/ball watching, which led to the ball being squared back from the bar line for an easy tap into a empty net. The first half was pretty even with both teams struggling to string many passes together due to the heavy pitch.
The Half time talk was key for us, we all knew that our first half's performance was to slow and our tempo and work off the ball needed to improve, which it did straight from the kick off. We closed Hurdsfield down and pushed them back and soon our efforts were rewarded with a great 20 yard goal from Connor.
The 2nd goal soon followed when our striker "Mad Dave" pounced quickly on a parried shot from me!! This seemed to knock the stuffing out of the hurdsfield lads and we capitalised on this with a third goal from a long throw into the box, which was knocked on and then smashed home by Ferg.
credit to the hurdsfield lads they rolled their sleeves up and bounced back with a goal from a free kick in the last 5 minutes of the game and may feel they deserved a draw when a last minute header from a corner was cleared off the line by JD.
Overall I felt we just edged the game and deserved the 3pts, Hopefully this gritty performance will kick start our season and help us push up the league.
