This was due to be a home match for Hurdsfield, but when the council decided early (on Wednesday) to close the Macc pitches due to the wet weather, we had time to try and switch the match to Partington. The pitch was in really good condition considering the rain we have had this week and how soggy the surrounding areas were - it must have had drainage installed under it at some time in the past, that wouldn't surprise me - the perimeter fencing and other evidence suggests at one time a higher standard of football was played on this pitch. Thank you to Dan and Jon for making the venue switch happen so that the match could be played - of course we are pleased it was !
First league win for Hurdsfield this season and we deserved it today. We had our best team so far this season, although not the best team we can put out and it wasn't helped with 2 no-shows which left us with just 11 until Ollie turned up with 30 mins to go.......we needed him and when he scored with a great strike soon after coming on to make it 4-1 and seal the win it was important for us. He didn't really do much else apart from that! Also worth mentioning that it is significant that we seemed to have solved our keeper problems, with new signing Darryl playing his second match for us. He didn't have too much to do today, but it gives the rest of the team confidence (especially the defenders) when you have a keeper with experience who knows what he is doing.
I think Hurdsfield were marginally the better team early on, although when we scored 2 goals in quick succession mid way through the first half the 2-0 scoreline was perhaps a bit flattering on us. But, PCFC then came more into the match and got one back to make it 2-1 at half time. The next goal was crucical and we were pleased it came for Hurdsfield early in the second half when Fran did well to make it 3-1. We then worked really hard to defend that lead as Peoples Church applied the pressure.
Good match, decent referee, good player conduct. Thank you to all.
