Superb game this on a sunny day in liverpool,at joe stone playing fields in norris green,(liverpool intermediate cup).
We started very slowly with a makeshift defence soon going 2-0 down as we defended badly and struggled to cope with their fluidity in midfield.
There fitness was very good being a young side and they passed the ball around very well.
Late in the 1st half we got a lifeline when nathan braddish scored from edge of the box.HT 2-1.
2 second half subs and a change of formation helped us as we pressed them back for long periods.with the clock running down we had 1 last chance to score and we did,good work down the right by david makungu finding the right pass for me to slot home from 6 yards.FT2-2.
ET began badly for us we conceded within 30 seconds after conceding a corner when we simply fell asleep.defending the corner was even worse as we gave the striker too much room to tap in.3-2.ht.
What happened next was bizarre.we made use of the roll on roll off subs(as directed by county fa) but the ref stopped the game and booked ary hossain and asked him to leave the pitch!!he said we couldnt re-use subs?
Everyone including the opposition was astonished but we just had to get on with it.it seemed to inspire us as nathan braddish was fouled on edge of box and stepped up to score a nice free kick making it 3-3 with seconds to go.
Thats how it ended,a great cup tie.
Pen shoot out went like this as we went 1st...1-0 1-1 both teams then missed.2-1 2-2 (we missed) 2-3 we then missed again and they scored 2-4.
Overall either team could have won,but they edged it.maybe they deserved it for the way they started.credit to them.
Handshakes all around at final whistle team spirit from both sides was fantastic.best of luck to strand united for the rest of the season.
