A game played in good spirits. Hurdsfield were unlucky not to have an actual keeper for the game, something that seems to plague alot of teams in this league, ourselves included last week.
Smafc surged into a 4-0 lead inside of 25 minutes and Hurdsfield pulled one back with a good finish from their usual dangerman, from 25 yards out. That brought a ten minute spell where Hurdsfield had a few opportunities to score again but just couldn't find the finishing touch on several good crosses.
Half Time 4-1.
Smafc had the better of the play in the second half and added a further three goals. Credit to Hurdsfield who kept their heads up and carried on giving their all throughout the game, despite the scoreline.

This was a fully deserved victory for SMA Red and a demoralising defeat for Hurdsfield. Reds played really well and we didn't, it was just a morning when nothing went right for us. Reds were quicker and stronger than us today and just seemed to want it more and created plenty of chances. We probably didn't deserve more than the one goal we got. Reds score would probably have been about half what it was if there hadn't been a string of keeper errors..........perhaps the score would have been a 3-1 or 4-1 but for those errors.......but still would have been a clear win for them.
On this performance I don't see SMA Reds struggling at the wrong end of the div 1 table as they did last time.
Unlike the last two matches when we could put defeat down to a weak team that was not the case today. Yes, we did lose one of our key midfielders quite early in the first half due to injury, but by then it was already 2-0 or 3-0, with the pattern and course of the match pretty much set.
A very disappointing morning, even the lovely weather couldn't cheer the mood, not really any positives we can draw.......except that yet again when faced with a heavy defeat we never lost our discipline and kept just trying to play football. Thanks to mdsfmafc for your comment on that in your post, and I agree that the match was played in good spirits.
Three defeats in a row, bottom of the table........but I don't think we have suddenly become a poor team and I am sure we will perform better than today and will start to get some points and wins. But it is clearly going to be a tough SMCCFL div 1 season for us.
And then I watched the Owls lose at home this afternoon - football can put you down and then kick you when you're down!
