Disappointing start to the league season for HTH after a good pre-season friendly performance the week before. We lost to the better team on the day, no complaints with the result. Youth and the 3G pitch definitely favoured the home team !
But we can't be too disappointed with the result, given that we had 4 key players missing and we had to bring in one new player. And with the score at 5-1 to Firwood at half time, we showed some good spirit and better football to 'win' the second half which meant we avoided a trouncing and finished the match in a positive frame of mind.
Firwood have some very good young footballers who are getting better with experience and they complement that with a few older wiser heads in the team - for example Nathan (Milnes)......pleased to see he is continuing to play football in SMCCFL despite his Audacious team folding at the end of last season. I reckon they will have a good season and with the significant advantage of the 3G pitch for home matches I think home form in particular will enable them to avoid the wrong end of the league table this season.
We did have player availability problems today (many different reasons), which is a pity for the first match of the season. But I am hoping (confident maybe) that it was just a one-off and we have added to the squad, so I hope numbers won't be a regular problem this season.
