Good to finish on a win especially after last week's Trophy semi final loss and to secure our position in div 1 for next season (which also confirmed the Blues relegation).
The pitch was dry but not as hard as some recently and in quite good condition. And we had a mix of winter and summer weather during the 90 mins - some spells of warm sunshine but two significant downpours which included some hail.
Hurdsfield probably just about deserved this closely contested win, but 2 of our goals came from keeper errors and in the second half there were spells in which Blues looked the more likely.
We had the better of the first half and led 2-0, Jonny had missed a penalty but then made amends with a well taken strike. Then within 5 minutes of the re-start Blues were level and it was game on. Fortunately for Hurdsfield, we scored the next 2 goals and despite Blues scoring a good break away goal to make it 4-3 we held on after that for the last 15-20mins.
So a mixed season comes to an end for Hurdsfield. After a really good start we had a mid season run when we didn't win a league match between October and early April (only Trophy wins in that period). But, two league wins in April have kept us in division 1.
As I said to Mark Hirst at the end of the match, relegation to div 2 should not be too much disappointment because Blues will definitely enjoy their football in div 2, perhaps even more so than in div 1. That was certainly our attitude when we had the prospect of relegation. I think div 2 is going to be a really competitive and interesting league next season, even more so than this season, with Oasis and Bridge Bolton promoted.
